Undertow Dreams

Glass-lined her life with the shell of a bottle
Nothing as kind as it seems
Paid with a heartache and look what it bought her
Just one more heroin dream

Glare at the lovers and stare down the needle
Giving back less than they take
Stabbing more pinholes in arms long-since feeble
Couldn’t care less what’s at stake

Wrapped up in sorrow like pain’s gentle blanket
Doesn’t do much for the cold
Not like the neighbors but trying to fake it
They only know what they’re told

To hell with attempting to act like she’s better
Wounds won’t be healing with time
Much like her suitors the truth finally hit her
Rose colored glasses just lie

Glass-lined her life with the shell of a bottle
Nothing as kind as it seems
Waved to the heartache and took to the water
Sleeping in undertow dreams

  1. So also it haunts,
    as with its beauty.
